At UDLA – Urban Design & Landscape Architecture, every project begins with a simple question: How will people experience this place? That philosophy guided the design of Dubai Islands Beach, a landmark waterfront project featured in Landscape Middle East magazine.

Unlike most public realm developments that complement completed buildings, Dubai Islands Beach was designed to do the opposite—to become the catalyst for an emerging destination. Set within a master-planned coastal development, the project was envisioned to attract visitors, activate the waterfront, and establish a strong sense of place long before the surrounding hotels, residences, and commercial districts are fully realised.

Led by Nader Bisada, Director of UDLA, the design focused on creating a beach that encourages people to stay, explore, and return. From thoughtfully positioned amenities and shaded public spaces to pedestrian-friendly circulation and activity zones, every element was planned around enhancing the visitor experience rather than simply creating an attractive beachfront.

The project also reflects UDLA’s integrated approach to landscape architecture, where design, engineering, construction, and long-term maintenance are considered from the earliest stages. By balancing creativity with technical expertise, the team delivered a resilient and adaptable public space capable of evolving alongside the future development of Dubai Islands.
